The top navigation bar is split into two parts to reflect the 2 columns in the central content area. The Top Banner area gives you plenty of space for a long site name and even longer description if that is what you need. The sunflowers image appears in the top right corner of the template, the same size are your right hand side navigation column.

If your site wants to publicise events then you will appreciate the calendar being highlighted in the first position to the right side of your content.
